February is Cancer Prevention Month. Over the next few weeks we will share with you things you can do to prevent cancer. Here are 10 recommendations for cancer prevention.
Be a Healthy Weight
Keep your weight within the healthy range and avoid gaining weight in adulthood.
Be Physically Active
Incorporate exercise and physical activity into your daily routine.
Eat a Diet High in Whole Grains, Fruits, Vegetables and Beans
Make these a major part of your everyday diet.
Limit “Fast Food” and Other Processed Foods High in Fat, Starches or Sugar
Limiting these foods makes controlling your calorie intake easier and helps you maintain a healthy weight.
Limit Consumption of Red and Processed Meat
Eat no more than a moderate amount of red meat, like beef, pork and lamb. Eat little, if any, processed meat.
Limit Consumption of Alcohol
When it comes to preventing cancer, it’s best to not drink alcohol.
Don’t Use Supplements
Aim to meet your nutritional needs through your diet alone.
For Mothers: Breastfeed Your Baby, if You Can
Breastfeeding is beneficial for both the mother and baby.
Don’t Smoke
Smoking is linked to lung cancer, bladder cancer and a host of other health problems.
