About

Alex Bribriesco, MD, is a thoracic surgeon at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Heart and Lung Surgery and is a practicing physician at the Community Cancer Center.

He graduated from medical school at the University of Pennsylvania, and completed his residency in General Surgery at Washington University in St. Louis/Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He also completed fellowships at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine, Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Toronto General Hospital/University of Toronto. Dr. Bribriesco is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.

When asked what patients should know about his practice, he said “I treat every patient as if they were part of my family. I want to listen first and then take the time to explain exactly what is going on and how we are going to treat it.”

As a former high school wrestler, Dr. Bribriesco enjoys watching all levels of the sport and coaching youth wrestling (including his son). He enjoys watching other sports as well, especially football. He also volunteers for Fuerzas Culturales Bellet Folklorico de Cedar Rapids, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving culture for the youth of Cedar Rapids.

Dr. Bribriesco is part of our Commission on Cancer (CoC) accreditation.
