Alyssa Grissom, MSN, APRN, AGCNS, AOCNS, is a genetics advanced practice nurse at the Helen G. Nassif Community Cancer Center.
She graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Wright State University and received a Master’s of Science in Nursing from Loyola University in Chicago.
Alyssa chose the field of oncology nursing because of the ability to form long-term connections and relationships with patients and their families. She says, “I continue to choose oncology, and specifically cancer genetics, because of the rapid advancements in the field, and the demand to keep up-to-date in my knowledge and skills.”
Alyssa says she is motivated by seeing cancer patients face some of the most significant challenges and complexities that exist in healthcare. “I am driven to be my best each day to provide support and reduce their burden,” she says.
Alyssa’s message to patients: “Approach your cancer diagnosis with a day-to-day mentality, and know your cancer team is with you at every step in your journey.”
In her free time, Alyssa enjoys biking, traveling and Latin dancing.
