What is Breath Techniques for Stress Management?
Breath can be used to regulate stress response. Whether you need to feel more calm or you need pep in your step, there are tools available through something as simple as breathing. This new class will explore these tools.
What can patients expect at a breath techniques for stress management class?
After checking in, patients will take a seat. We will start with a quote of the day and learn a new breath practice each week. We will work to find the tools for you to modulate your response to stress and expand your resiliency window.
In what ways can breath techniques for stress management benefit patients currently in treatment, as well as cancer survivors?
The research show that patients in treatment can benefit, with results as small as lowered cortisol levels and increased mood, to benefits as large as “heart sparing” for those who practice specific breath techniques during treatment. In survivorship, the breath can be used to navigate the lingering changes in sleep, appetite, mood and improve quality of life.
What would you say to someone who is hesitant to try breath techniques for stress management?
Feel free to grab a chair and sit in the back to observe. It is a seated environment, accessible to anyone. You won’t know the benefits for yourself with giving it a try. Join us and give it a try!
What is your goal when working with patients in the breath techniques for stress management class?
To allow the patients to self-tailor the practice that works best for them. Without equipment or even a large amount of time, the self-reported usefulness of having breath to affect change is empowering.
